Dr. Minton has been active in the investment world since 1978 when he joined E. F. Hutton as a stockbroker. In 1989, Dr. Minton founded Fourth Street Financial Group, an institutional investment consulting firm, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1991, Fourth Street became affiliated with Callan Associates (San Francisco), as the first member of Callan's new Investment Council program.
In 1997, Dr. Minton sold his interest in Fourth Street to other principals of the firm and started Alpha Investment Management. Dr. Minton and Michael Burk, Alpha's Director of Research, subsequently developed Alpha's proprietary risk management trading system.
Dr. Minton has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Cincinnati and has published several articles and a book "Philosophy: Paradox and Discovery" (McGraw-Hill).
Michael Burk, Director of Research
Mike Burk has been involved in investment research since 1980 when he began exploring technical analysis as a method for predicting market movements. In the 1980's, Mike discovered that the behavior of new lows on the New York Stock Exchange, when combined with other indicators, was highly predictive of market changes. In 1989, Mike published several articles on this subject, and in 1990, he developed a computerized trading system based on his discovery. He formed his own company which sold this investment system to subscribers nationwide.
In 1998, Mike met Dr. Minton and collaborated in the development of an objective trading system based on the research of Norman Fosback (Market Logic, 1976).
Mike developed a proprietary computer software program which allows Alpha to research historical data and to identify "power periods", i.e. periods of time, recurring each year, when the market tends to appreciate at a much higher rate then normal.
Mike is currently working on combining Alpha's trading system with other market indicators and market cycles in order to improve investment returns by enhancing Alpha's understanding of market risk and its causes.
